Surabaya : Challenging Practices of Commoning
Round table sessions
In Brussels, several groups of citizens experiment with new ways to face the current issues of urban life collectively .
In Surabaya (Indonesia), this collective approach is the traditional way of life in the ‘kampungs’. These neighborhoods are kind of ‘urban villages’ inhabited by a majority of people with low income. For fifteen years public authorities have supported the local communities in order to improve sanitary conditions, security and the overall quality of life of the poorest. However the exponential development of the city brings new challenges and requires new practices.
Stakeholders from Brussels and Surabaya will exchange experiences at BOZAR.
